Pokémon is a series of video games first released in 1996 in Japan. The name Pokémon originates from its Japanese brand name Poketto Monsutā meaning Pocket Monsters. Due to the extreme popularity of the game, it has been merchandised into anime, manga, trading cards, toys, books etc.
